Wallenpaupack Area Athletics

A Message from the Athletic Director:

Student participation on an athletic team is considered an educational experience in general.  The aim of the interscholastic athletic program of the Wallenpaupack Area School District is to provide students with an opportunity to participate in a series of contests and practices which should fulfill student needs for learning experiences in athletics; promote friendly competition; foster school spirit and teach citizenship through sportsmanship.

We, at Wallenpaupack, believe that the opportunity for participation in extra curricular activities is a vital part of the student’s educational experiences.  Such participation is a privilege that carries with it responsibilities to the school, to the activity, to the student body, to the community and to the participant.  Lessons in teamwork, positive attitudes, competition, dedication, self-sacrifice, loyalty, discipline and leadership are an integral part of each organization in our activities program.

Interscholastic competition adds to our school spirit and helps students; spectators, community and participants develop pride in their school.  While in the process of developing the above, as opportunities are provided for the development of knowledge, skills, habits, social competencies, initiative and ethical values for growth and insight not only for the present, but as a lasting carry-over value for life.

Sportsmanship is very important to us here at Wallenpaupack Area School District and should be reflected by the behavior of our student body and our fans.  Please cheer for your team and not against the opponent.  Please treat everyone with respect.  We must all strive to set an example of the highest ethical and moral conduct.  Winning at all costs should not be placed above the most desirable ideals of character.

The administration and athletic department support our coaches.  Our coaches must be respected.  If a parent or a student has a concern or a question, they should contact the coach at a time removed from practice or a game to meet and discuss their concern or question.  If the issue is not resolved, please contact the Athletic Director to follow up with your concerns.

Officials must also be respected for their decisions.  Although fans might not be in agreement with their decisions, they are professionals who strive to perform at the best of their abilities.  Their decisions should be accepted without public protest.

Thank you very much for your cooperation and go out and cheer for our BUCKHORNS!!

Sincerely,

Mark Kirsten
